Few days are as worthy of our respect, attention and reflection as Veteran’s Day.

Personally, I can’t even imagine the courage, valor, sacrifice and heroism required of our service men and women– past and present.

Those who have read A Gift Most Rare know that Mr. Olson served in World War I, Charlie’s dad served in World War II and Parker Jones fought in the Vietnam War.  All three were honorably discharged from the Army – and all three always esteemed and paid tribute to other veterans and the things they all risked their lives for.

I’m still grateful for the veterans I knew growing up in Briarcliff.  In particular, was Mr. Daggett, who served in Europe during World War II.  He loved our country and would do anything in support of it – and his fellow veterans.

I’ve never met a veteran that desired any special attention or preferred treatment – but I also have never met a veteran that wasn’t worthy of those things.

I don’t suppose any of us support war.  But we can all thank a vet for those times when war was inevitable.
